Eating Out

Booking is a must, so check with Avril regarding opening times for the restaurant.  Times can change for any number of reasons, so don't get caught by thinking you will just wander down.

Cocos has its own 'time clock' and we all have to fit in with it!!

However, once set with your booking you will have the chance to sample a variety  of steaming Cocos Malay Dishes.  Our restaurant,  is noted for its fabulous traditional food!  It is delectable!

The Mesra Kafe is generally open during the morning, selling a variety of take-away food, both Western and Cocos style.  Purchasing a 'take-away' traditional meal is a good option and can be heated up back at Oceania House.

West Island

If you are going over to West Island, there is a great buffet style restaurant, 'The Tropica', at the Cocos Beach Motel.  You can buy lunch or book for dinner; a large variety of both Cocos Malay food as well as some Western foods are available.

Dory's Cafe has great coffee and serves light lunches in a quaint little stand-alone building with views across the magnificent Indian Ocean.

The Wick Cafe,at the Airport Check-in Centre, sells traditional food where you can buy take-aways or sit and eat in the open air verandar.  Always tasty and well-priced.

Supermarket - for your snacks etc

A short walk from Oceania House you will find 'Shamrock's Supermarket'.  They have most of the things you find on the mainland, but prices are more expensive due to transport costs.

You might want to buy staples like: breakfast cereal, bread, milk, butter and some cold meat etc to make sandwiches for lunch or snacks.  Nuts and biscuits and soft drinks are also plentiful.

Fruit, vegetables, cheese and delicacies are quite expensive and we always suggest you bring a supply with you unless cost is not an issue.

The fresh fish is delicious and can be ordered from the local fishermen at a good price.  For these occasions you are welcome to use the bbq.

Fresh food is expensive, bring a selection with you
